IBM and AMD, the renowned tech giants, announced a multi-year joint development agreement for enhancement and extension of security and artificial intelligence (AI) for IBM and AMD both.

This will help in expansion of the vision of the open-source software, open standards and open system architectures for driving ‘confidential computing’ in a hybrid cloud environment.

Supporting a wide range of accelerators in high-performance computing (HPC), and enterprise-critical capabilities like virtualization and encryption, the agreement will also support confidential computing protection for data while it is being processed.

As per Gartner, confidential computing potentially eradicates the remaining barrier to hybrid cloud adoption for highly regulated businesses or any organization related to unauthorized third-party access to data in use in the public cloud.

IBM Research Director Dario Gil, said, “This agreement by AMD recognizes technological innovation by the company and its mission for development and acceleration of the adoption of the hybrid cloud for helping in connecting a secure and powerful digital world.”

IBM, which focuses on providing clients with choices, agility and security, in its hybrid cloud, offers through advanced research, development and scaling of new technologies.

Mark Papermaster, Executive Vice President and CTO, AMD, said, “AMD and IBM’s agreement aligns well with the long-lasting commitment of collaboration with leaders in the industry. AMD is excited to extent the work with IBM on AI, accelerating data centre workloads and improving security in cloud.”

For companies, which secure highly sensitive data, it’s still a challenge for maintaining prolific cybersecurity from cloud providers, as per to the IBM’s Institute for Business Value.

Confidential computing capability helps in prevention from hostility and bad actors from accessing confidential information, even in the event of a break in. Confidential Computing for hybrid cloud opens new potential to enterprises which look forward for adopting cloud computing, mainly in the industries of finance, and healthcare and insurance.

AMD and IBM’s researchers engagement on joint development activities stipulated in the agreement is now stepping on-board.
